Fred On Everything | Scurrilous Commentary by Fred Reed:

Much of today’s anger would diminish if we allowed people to live in neighborhoods of their own kind, and study in schools of their own kind, and be policed by their own kind, and to establish clubs as they like. We could call this something like, oh, say, “freedom.”
Fred does a good job with this idea of forced togetherness.  Do read the whole thing.

Catholic Cardinal Refutes Pope, Whose Stance on Migrants is At Odds With the Teachings of Saint Thomas Aquinas – MILO NEWS

Catholic Cardinal Refutes Pope, Whose Stance on Migrants is At Odds With the Teachings of Saint Thomas Aquinas – MILO NEWS:

“The right of a nation to distinguish a refugee from an economic immigrant who does not identify with the culture of the country in which he wants to live cannot be undermined,” Sarah said according toGOSC.

Sarah named Poland as a country which should be able to make that distinction and reject immigration policies“some people want to impose.”

The Cardinal acknowledged that although migrants should be respected as human beings, thefactors of religion, culture, and national safety complicates the issue beyond acknowledging humanity.

Sarah spoke out againstworld leaders that are attempting to undermine the rights of countries that wish to deny migrants that wish to erode national identity, pose a threat to the country or hold religious beliefs that contradict a nation’s culture.

“The ideology of liberal individualism promotes a mixing that is designed to erode the natural borders of homelands and cultures, and leads to a post-national and one-dimensional world where the only things that matter are consumption and production,” he said.

Henry V -Saint Crispin’s Day 25 October 1415:

This story shall the good man teach his son;

And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.

Bill Gates Tacitly Admits His Common Core Experiment Was A Failure:

I have been hard on Gates over the years for Common Core because he has used his fabulous financial power irresponsibly. He’s forced American citizens into an experimental and at best academically mediocre policy fantasy that has further eroded American government’s legitimacy, which depends upon the consent of the governed. He and Melinda may mean well, but they haven’t done well on this major initiative. It’s going to take a lot more than passive-aggressive side references to their failure to make up for the years of classroom chaos their bad ideas inflicted on many U.S. teachers and kids without their consent. A direct apology and dedication to the “first, do no harm” principle would be a start.
I have extracted the last paragraph above, but do read the whole thing.

:

SO FAR, SO GOOD: Donald Trump: King of Deregulation?

It seemed a characteristic bit of Trumpian magniloquence—he’s not only a boffo deregulator, he’s the best ever! Still, it was a remarkable claim. Trump has overseen more deregulation than George W. Bush or Ronald “government is the problem” Reagan?

But, measured by at least one significant standard, Trump’s claim is true. Patrick McLaughlin of the Mercatus Center, a free-market-oriented think tank at George Mason University, applies innovative research techniques to the study of regulation and the economy. He recently analyzed the output of regulatory restrictions promulgated in the last several presidencies, going back to Jimmy Carter. McLaughlin found that there have been periods in some presidencies when regulatory output slowed or declined—in several years of the Reagan presidency, for instance, and in 1996, when “reinventing government” was part of Bill Clinton’s election pitch. But over the full terms of each recent president, including Reagan, regulation increased, according to McLaughlin. So far the increase in regulatory restrictions under Trump has been near to zero.

“So in that sense, the president may be right,” the economist reports. “There may not be a net increase in regulations so far under him, and since there was a net increase in every four-year term for every preceding president, going back to the ’70s, then I think that could be a safe statement.”
How about a moratorium on new regulations until we get a serious net decrease?

Michael Owen Nails the Gun Debate (On the Banks)

Michael Owen Nails the Gun Debate (On the Banks):

Some guy named Michael Owens writes the following.  I copied this from another blog who copied the article from somewhere.  No one knows who this guy is and where he writes his articles, but this is really good.

"No amount of statistics or facts will sway either side in the gun control debate, because they are all looking for simple solutions to complex problems. The facts of those complex problems are uncomfortable and nobody really wants to come to grips with them.

"For example, we don’t really have a single America with a moderately high rate of gun deaths. Instead, we have two Americas, one of which has very high rates of gun ownership but very low murder rates, very comparable to the rest of the First World democracies such as those in western & northern Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, South Korea. The other America has much lower rates of gun ownership but much, much higher murder rates, akin to violent third world countries.

"The tough questions are those like, why do we have these two Americas? But that’s an uncomfortable discussion to have. So instead those on the left favor simple minded restrictions that target first world America, with its high gun ownership but very low murder rate, but don’t address the root causes of third world America’s violence at all. Meanwhile those on the right correctly feel their civil rights are constantly threatened, so they are constantly in a state of “better stock up before they finally ban it” and the guns and ammo fly off the shelves. The left’s constant gun control rhetoric is the greatest thing ever for arms manufacturers.

"Meanwhile, over the past 40 years, while the number of guns in private hands has doubled, the murder rate has dropped by half. The left are constantly prattling about “assault weapons” which are almost never used to commit murders (about 1% of gun murders; all rifles combined are around 3%). More murders are committed with baseball bats than “assault rifles”; the vast majority of gun homicides are committed with handguns, but it’s easier to sell restrictions that target “assault weapons”, even though such restrictions, even if 100% effective, would make no detectable change in the murder rate (especially because of substitution effects). They favor ridiculous measures such as bans on “high capacity magazines”, as if magazines weren’t cheap and easily swapped out in a fraction of a second.

"The uncomfortable fact is that roughly 80% of the US homicide rate is associated with the drug trade, and the drug trade is violent because the drug war reserves it for violent criminals. We have a system in place where the government subsidizes poverty in urban areas, imposes economic blight in those same areas through heavy taxes and regulations, renders the residents permanently unemployable via the “criminal justice” (sic) system, and creates a lucrative black market in drugs by restricting supply (not to mention increasing demand as people are desperate to escape their circumstances by getting high), meaning the only game in town is often entering the drug trade. The drug trade is violent because those in it have no access to courts to settle disputes. Powerful industries lobby to keep the drug war going; the top spenders are law enforcement unions, the prison industry, big alcohol, tobacco, and pharma.

"Guns are not the proximate cause of gun violence in the US. Childlike magical thinking and simple “fixes” to complex problems will not work. But it is comfortable, and self-righteousness feels so good. So I expect it to continue indefinitely."

How the State Department is Undermining Trump’s Agenda – American Greatness:

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has isolated himself from his own department and allowed subordinates to fill a handful of top positions with people who actively opposed Donald Trump’s election, according to current and former State Department officials and national security experts with specific knowledge of the situation.

News reports often depict a White House “in chaos.” But the real chaos, according to three State Department employees who spoke with American Greatness on the condition of anonymity, is at Foggy Bottom.

More media bias from the NYT - Latest News - Mike Huckabee

More media bias from the NYT - Latest News - Mike Huckabee:

The latest undercover video from James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas shows the home page editor of the New York Times admitting that the paper leans left and that it’s “too difficult” to be objective. She says they give readers what they want – Trump bashing – because it has boosted subscriptions, and that’s the main objective, which you do in “any way that you can.” She thinks Trump is an “oblivious idiot” and Mike Pence isn’t fit for a leadership position because of his Christian religious beliefs. Oh, and the Times tried to affect the results of the election by focusing on attacking Trump

So subscriptions are more important than the truth.  Follow the money.  The Founders understood the importance of freedom of the press.  But, it was predicated on honest reporting.  We don't have that today and the press should not be protected in a way that allows them to slander and lie.  However, it's very difficult to control that without imposing onerous rules and reducing freedom.  Public opinion and pressure to their pocketbook, similar to what is happening to the NFL, would be helpful.  Let the market work.

U.S. jobless claims drop to more than 44-year low

U.S. jobless claims drop to more than 44-year low:

October 19, 2017
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits fell to its lowest level in more than 44 years last week, pointing to a rebound in job growth after a hurricane-related decline in employment in September.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 22,000 to a seasonally adjusted 222,000 for the week ended Oct. 14, the lowest level since March 1973, the Labor Department said
on Thursday. Data for the prior week was revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported.
The decrease in claims was the largest since April and was probably exaggerated by the Columbus Day holiday on Monday.
Claims are declining as the effects of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma wash out of the data. Harvey and Irma, which lashed Texas and Florida, boosted claims to 298,000 in early September.
A Labor Department official said claims for the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico continued to be impacted by Irma and Hurricane Maria, which destroyed infrastructure. As a result the Labor Department continued to estimate claims for the islands.
Nonfarm payrolls dropped by 33,000 jobs in September as Hurricanes Irma and Harvey left more than 100,000 restaurant workers left temporarily unemployed. The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are not included in nonfarm payrolls.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims falling to
240,000 in the latest week. Last week market the 137th consecutive week that claims remained below the 300,000 threshold, which is associated with a strong labor market.
That is the longest such stretch since 1970, when the labor market was smaller. The labor market is near full employment, with the jobless rate at a more than 16-1/2-year low of 4.2 percent.
The four-week moving average of initial claims, considered a
better measure of labor market trends as it irons out
week-to-week volatility, fell 9,500 to 248,250 last week.
The claims data covered the survey week for October nonfarm payrolls. The four-week average of claims fell 20,500 between the September and October survey periods, supporting views of a rebound in job growth this month.
The claims report also showed the number of people still
receiving benefits after an initial week of aid decreased 16,000 to 1.89 million in the week ended Oct. 7, the lowest level
since December 1973.
The so-called continuing claims have now been below the 2 million mark for 27 straight weeks, pointing to diminishing labor market slack. The four-week moving average of
continuing claims dropped 22,750 to 1.91 million, the lowest level since January 1974. That was the 25th consecutive week that this measure remained below the 2 million market.

Radical Islamic Ideology – A Plague Against Humanity

Radical Islamic Ideology – A Plague Against Humanity:

Some time back it was reported that an alert Maryland police officer saw an Islamic woman in an SUV videotaping a bridge’s support structures. He arrested the driver, Ismail Elbarasse—a Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood operative. An FBI raid on Elbarasse’s home unearthed a trove of Islamic doctrinal books and key Muslim Brotherhood documents—which became evidence in the largest terrorism-financing trial in U.S. history.
Islam’s books are “the real bomb,” Muslim reformer Islam al-Behery said. Its ideology is “its blueprint” for world domination. A document from the Elbarasse raid outlines the Muslim Brotherhood’s phased plan to destroy Western civilization from within:
Phase One: Secret establishment of leadership.
Phase Two: Gradual public profile by infiltrating government, the judiciary, finance, intelligence, police, prisons, military, education and religious institutions.
Phase Three: Escalation prior to conflict and confrontation with rulers using mass media.
Phase Four: Publically confront the government using political pressure. Weapons training domestically and overseas in anticipation of zero-hour.
Phase Five: Seize power to establish the Islamic state.
Other documents outline the plan to replace the U.S. Constitution with sharia (Islamic law). Sharia is based on the Quran and other Islamic writings. Moderates see it a spiritual struggle, or outwardly observe it for fear of reprisal. But for radicals, sharia is the legal and political foundation for jihad and global rule, a power play to force Islam on the world. The D.C. based Center for Security Policy calls it a “totalitarian ideology” controlling all legal, political, military, economic and social life. No other laws or governments may coexist with sharia. It’s primarily political, not religious; though in America it masks itself as a religion to manipulate the First Amendment as a front for seditious activity.
The Quran requires all Muslims to wage jihad (holy war) against infidels (non-Muslims). Jihad calls for multiple stages and platforms—violent and pre-violent. An Elbarasse memorandum calls the pre-violent “settlement process” in North America “civilization jihad” to destroy the Western way of life. In jihad’s final, violent stage, non-Muslims convert or die. Though jihad is obvious in North America and Europe, it’s not limited to the West.
The phased plan is a template for radical Muslim subjugation. Indonesia, a secular, mostly moderate Muslim-majority democracy, is a case in point. Its motto, “Unity in Diversity” reflects its six religions and 300 ethnicities. Though religious parties’ gains in national elections have been paltry, locally elected Islamists passed more than 400 sharia ordinances, according to economist.com. Christian incumbent Basuki Tjahaja “Ahok” Purnama lost a recent governor’s race when radical Islamists told Muslim voters that Islam forbids voting for Christians. A video of Ahok’s rebuttal was edited to appear he was insulting the Quran. Charged with blasphemy, he lost the election and was sentenced to jail.
Ahok’s conviction—accompanied by violent rallies and death threats, shows the chilling influence on pluralism by “hardline Islamism that the government and judiciary are reluctant to oppose,” said Time reporter Nicola Smith. In Indonesia, radical Islamists have advanced their plan for global dominance to Phase Four.
Then there’s Iran, whose visceral anti-Semitism and poisonous ideology infuses jihad and sharia, but with a twist. The late Ayatollah Khomeini, and his successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, sidestepped Shi’a believe that the Mahdi (12th Imam), a quasi-messianic figure, must return before waging jihad and adopted an ideology promoting a senior Shiite cleric to theocratic political power over Shiites worldwide. Khomeini offered himself as successor to the 12 Imams, thus “inheriting the mantle of leadership directly from Muhammad,” said expert Clare Lopez.
Khomeini inserted his doctrine into the 1989 constitution, in which the regime’s objective is global conquest under sharia rule and nuclear dominance is a surefire path to achieve that goal.
Iran and its proxies not only menace Israel’s existence and portend regional upheaval, the “bomb” of Islamist ideology threatens the lives and freedoms of every sovereign nation in the world.

So much needs to change with our institutions, yet there no signs of any changes even being contemplated. This is bad news for the taxpayers who are footing the bill and depend on them for one-fifth of the new officer pool. America, Your Campuses Are Madhouses. Why Are We Paying For This?

America, Your Campuses Are Madhouses. Why Are We Paying For This?:

Here is a gentle tip for the nominal adults nominally in charge of American campuses: if your students disrupt a scheduled event, or storm the stage of a school function, or take a classroom hostage (particularly on an exam day!), do not give in to them. Instead, have security escort them out immediately. If they resist, arrest them. If they persist, expel them.

Putting one’s foot down will not be easy or pleasant. But it is necessary—unless you wish to surrender your campuses and careers to mindless, fanatical zealots.
This is a whole lot like good parenting but, then, we're not very good at that either.   So, nominal parents pass of their kids to nominal adults at American campuses.

Kasich: Trump, Bannon Agenda ‘Is Not What’ the Republican ‘Party Is’:

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) said the executive chairman of Breitbart News Steve Bannon targeting Republican senators to help ensure President Donald Trump’s agenda is being moved forward is pushing policy that is “not what the party is.” Partial transcript as follows: TODD: There seems to be a massive battle inside this Republican party. Steve Bannon yesterday declared it a season of war against the Republican establishment, singling out people like Bob Corker in particular, and thought it was outrageous he cared to criticize the president. What do you make of what Steve Bannon is doing to the Republican party? KASICH: I was on a show not long ago saying I’m disappointed in the direction of the Republican party. They cannot be anti-trade or anti-immigrant. They just can’t walk away from increasing debt. The Republican party can’t go out and start grabbing people out of their homes who have been really good people living in this country and shipping them out of the country willy-nilly or taking away health care for millions of people. This is not what the party is.
He is exactly right and that is exactly the problem.   The GOP is no longer in tune with the founding ideals of the Republic.  They have become too PC and utopian, do-gooders much like the Left.

Lindsey Graham‏: If We Do Not Cut Taxes and Repeal Obamacare ‘We Are Dead’:

FSunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Sen. Lindsey Graham‏ (R-SC) said if Republican legislators did not follow through with their promises they “are dead.” When asked if Congress was going to pass tax reform Graham‏ said, “‏If we don’t we are dead.” He continued, “If we don’t cut taxes and we don’t eventually repeal and replace Obamacare then we’re going to lose across the board the house in 2018. And all of my colleagues running in primaries in 2018 will probably get beat. It will be the end of Mitch McConnell we know it. That is a symptom of a greater problem. If we do cut taxes and repeal and replace Obamacare it doesn’t matter what Bannon does because we’ll win.” He continued, “Mitch McConnell is not our problem. Our problem that we promised to repeal and replace Obamacare and we failed. We promised to cut taxes, and we’re yet to do it. If we’re successful Mitch McConnell is fine if not we’re all in trouble. We’ll lose our majority, and I think President Trump will not get reelected.”
In an earlier post, I predicted that Trump was playing golf with Graham to persuade him to support his agenda.  Now, this.

NATIONAL SECURITY’S MILLENNIAL PROBLEM. “What ties Winner, Snowden and Manning together is their be…:

NATIONAL SECURITY’S MILLENNIAL PROBLEM. “What ties Winner, Snowden and Manning together is their belief that laws on protecting classified information didn’t apply to them. Some sort of imaginary public ‘need to know’ what they learned through their jobs motivated them to leak secrets—with themselves as the sole arbiters of what the public should find out. . . . There’s plenty of blame to go around in the Winner, Snowden, and Manning cases, above all on a failed counterintelligence system that granted high-level security clearances to people who were clearly psychologically unfit to hold them. Yet that does not absolve the criminals here, and it’s impossible to miss that they’re all Millennials too. . . . The Millennial generation, or at least a portion of it, includes Americans who seemingly reject centuries of understanding about why state secrets must be kept. Blame ought not be placed entirely on such Millennials, who after all were raised to reject many of our nation’s core values.”
Well, there are leakers and there are whistleblowers. The former are dangerous, but the latter are the only reason the national security establishment might possibly be trustworthy. I wrote on this a while back.
"who after all were raised to reject many of our nation’s core values.”.  Who taught them this?  Who raised them to believe this?  The school system and the information system all run by the Left intentionally corrupting the future citizens.  This did not happen by accident.  This is the Left trying to subvert the Republic.

Leftists and the Jews | Frontpage Mag:

America has done more uplifting of humanity and promotion of freedom than any other country in the history of this planet. We Jews have been blessed beyond our wildest fantasies, enjoying her gifts, her bounty, her grace but we must step away from what is happening and not be seduced by a deceitful, pandering mirage. The Left is not our friend, not as Americans and not as Jews.
Freedom courses through our blood. It throbs in our soul.
It is no accident that on the Liberty Bell are written the words from our Torah, “Ukratem dror ba’aretz” (“Proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof”). The treasure that is America and the poetry that is Judaism are joined together in a hallowed union that rang across spacious skies, fruited plains and majestic purple mountains.
We are good folks and must see beyond the moral bankruptcy, the hypocrisy, the lies, the hatred and the calamity of an ascendant Left.
My friends, Charlottesville is the price of freedom and squaw is a real word.

Yes, Trump is Winning – American Greatness:

There’s a disturbance in the bubble. What just happened to the NFL and Hollywood is happening in many other avenues of our culture. Sometimes, when a thunderstorm is nigh, the wind suddenly shifts and picks up, the birds get nervous, and you can feel the storm arriving before the rain actually starts. I believe that is about to happen in American culture, though who exactly will be left standing out in the rain is a little unclear. I do expect, however, that fewer and fewer redoubts of anti- or NeverTrump complacency will remain as his policies continue to deliver winning scenarios for Americans. Maybe the next time I go to that club there will be less Mussolini and more comity.

This is a very, very good article.  Read the whole thing.

Mark Steyn: Harvey Weinstein Avoidance of Criminal Charges 'Banana Republic Political Corruption' - Breitbart

Mark Steyn: Harvey Weinstein Avoidance of Criminal Charges 'Banana Republic Political Corruption' - Breitbart:

Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Justice,” conservative commentator Mark Steyn criticized the system that had allowed embattled Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinsteinto avoid any consequencesof sexual harassment allegations dating back to the 1980s.

Steyn toldhost Jeanine Pirro spending money on a Weinstein movie was the equivalent of buying “blood diamonds” in Africa.

“[T]hat’s banana republic political corruption,” Steyn said.
The decay of the Republic is quite amazing.  I knew, years ago, that feminism was off the rails.  I knew that Bill Clinton was a liar and a predator and we failed to hold him accountable and that was a serious disturbance in the force.  I knew that Hollywood was not right and I stopped watching movies years ago.  I knew big sports was not right and I stopped watching them years ago.  What I did not realize, until recently, was how corrupted the GOP is and how corrupted the governmental agencies are.  Mark Steyn is absolutely correct - Banana Republic.

Caroline Glick on Tinseltown

Caroline Glick is a world-class journalist. I am a bit more cynical than her.  I don't watch any movies.  I quit supporting them just like I quit supporting professional sports years ago.  The article below is from her Facebook page.
Harvey Weinstein is a disgusting pervert in a town full of disgusting perverts. If the Hollywood types want to burn their own house down, I'm all for getting out the popcorn and soda pop, turning down the lights and watching the show. It's like watching a prison fight. May the best convicted felon win!I am cynical about what is happening because I really don't care that much. I never thought of any of these people as anything but preening, self-congratulatory attention hounds to begin with. Long gone are those days when stars in Hollywood stood for anything meaningful. I don't remember ever admiring any of them on a personal level. I just liked to watch them act, if they are good actors, or tell jokes, if they are funny, or wear cool clothes if they are beautiful.
Which brings me to the Justice League and Ben-the-groper-Harvey-Weinstein-Al-Gore-friend Affleck. Since I took my kids to Wonder Woman in the spring, we have been looking forward to that movie coming out.
I think that Ben Affleck is a fine actor. I liked him in Good Will Hunting. I liked him in Argo. I'm sure I saw him in other ones that I don't remember and was never put off by him.
I couldn't care less that he is a jerk. Or was a jerk. Or whatever. I assume that he's up to the job of playing Batman well enough and again, I PROMISED my kids we are seeing the movie when it comes out.
If anything good at all come from this new episode of moralistic arson from the Hollywood types, maybe they will preach less to us and have merit and talent play slightly larger roles in determining who gets to be in movies and who doesn't.
I'm not expecting for Hollywood to finally quit blacklisting conservatives. I harbor no delusions that one day a major studio will produce a serious Jack Ryan type movie on jihad. There are no miracles in Tinseltown in 2017.
But while I'm happy to chomp on my popcorn and watch the roof fall in, I do feel it necessary to take a stand. I promised my kids Justice League. Affleck is an actor. I don't care that he's a jerk. We're not having him over for dinner and I want to keep my promise.

This is more of the misguided Left's attempts to control the world to their liking.  But, it's impossible to control everything.  The costs are enormous and the system turns out to be so brutal that people lose all freedom as a result of what started out as book control or maybe gun control.   Yet, they persist.  It seems that societies come and go and evolve through these phases of insanity even though it's historically recorded that this is exactly what happens when you behave this way.  DENIAL.
