My Gender is 'Fill in the Blank'

My Gender is 'Fill in the Blank' - BarbWire.com: "I truly care for people who struggle with their gender identity, especially little children, who cannot possibly be accused of having some kind of sinister agenda, and I do hope we can get to the root of the very deep and significant issues that contribute to the feeling of disharmony they experience between their bodies and their minds.

But it is madness to have 58 ways to describe your gender or, worse still, to offer a “fill in the blank” option to describe your gender.

It needs to stop."

The Power to Educate Is the Power to Indoctrinate

The Power to Educate Is the Power to Indoctrinate - Freedom Outpost: "The power to educate is the power to indoctrinate. When governments instead of teachers and parents take over an educational system, they start with the money. Once they get the district and local school systems used to feeding on Federal money, they start to feed curriculum down the food chain, as well, dictating what should be taught to children as a condition for receiving that Federal money. There is method in this madness. The Nazis understood it well, as did the Soviets. There is a saying, "The child is father to the man." Its meaning is clear. A child's mind is keenly receptive to what he (or she) is taught. It is a learning mechanism instilled by nature to enable a child with no life experience to trust completely and to believe what is told to them by those who guide him, i.e., the authority figures in his life.

Australia's Wind Power Market Deflates

Australia's Wind Power Market Deflates: "Earlier this month, Reuters reported the collapse of the wind power market in Australia. The Liberal government there is pulling the plug on state subsidies for the renewable energy industry. Without those subsidies, investor interest evaporates. So much for the claims (also here and here) that wind and solar technologies are already competitive."

Allen West: Constitutional Conservative Principles Are Essential To America’s Future: "Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West believes that many Americans are beginning to see that Constitutional conservative principles are essential for the future success of the United States. At CPAC Friday, Colonel West said that national security, along with Booker T. Washington’s principles of education, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance, are the cornerstones of the message that the “dependency society” does not work. West is optimistic about the country’s future and believes that Americans always find a way to succeed.

Dimensions Of Dysfunction Suffered By Secular Leftists: "Finally, Leftists tend to be very self-absorbed and paranoid, immune to all factual information contradicting the narrative. If not experiencing immediate gratification, they go all Veruca, then spin another conspiracy theory. It often gets very emotional.

In short, hell hath no fury like a Leftist scorned. Go ahead. Scorn one. See what happens. Or you can tune into MSNBC and watch them go berserk. Great fun, until you realize the psychos really are in control, and thus, the world has become one enormous asylum.

Perhaps we should cling to our guns and our Bibles.

Getting It Right In Botswana: Free Markets, Fiscal Rectitude, Record Growth | David Stockman's Contra Corner: "Still, Botswana is setting an especially noteworthy example. Its success shows that free markets and strong property rights will work everywhere. Economic laws are of course always and everywhere valid. Once a free market system is adopted, capital accumulation and growing prosperity will invariably follow. Botswana proves that economic freedom is far better at achieving development goals and raising living standards than the billions in foreign aid that have been wasted on countless developing countries over the years to little avail.

There's Nothing Unpatriotic About Challenging Obama on Iran

There's Nothing Unpatriotic About Challenging Obama on Iran - David Harsanyi - Page 1: "But the problem isn't protocol, Israeli elections, patriotism or partisanship. It's the fact that Netanyahu is going to make a powerful argument against enabling Iran to become a nuclear power. Many Americans will hear it -- or of it. Many Americans will agree.

Devotion to Obama is not the same as loyalty to your country. The opposition party, in fact, has a responsibility to disrupt the president's agenda if it truly believes that it's the wrong path for the nation. This is why we have political parties. And this is why I'm pretty sure many anti-war liberals believe that the Hillary Clintons and John Kerrys of the world failed the country leading up to the Iraq War.

Pagalia: Feminism Equals ‘Whining, Narcissistic Victimology’ | Ed Driscoll: "I am an equal opportunity feminist: that is, I call for the removal of all barriers to women’s advance in the professional and political realms. However, I oppose special protections for women, which I reject as demeaning and infantilizing. My principal demand (as I have been repeating for nearly 25 years) is for colleges to confine themselves to education and to cease their tyrannical surveillance of students’ social lives. If a real crime is committed, it must be reported to the police. College officials and committees have neither the expertise nor the legal right to be conducting investigations into he said/she said campus dating fiascos. Too many of today’s young feminists seem to want hovering, paternalistic authority figures to protect and soothe them, an attitude I regard as servile, reactionary and glaringly bourgeois. The world can never be made totally safe for anyone, male or female: there will always be sociopaths and psychotics impervious to social controls. I call my system “street-smart feminism”:  there is no substitute for wary vigilance and personal responsibility."

Make no mistake about it, this crisis between Israel and the Administration has been totally created by this president and supported by the Democrats.

This split serves Obama's goals, ensuring that Netanyahu loses the upcoming election, stopping Israel from damaging his sell out to Iran, and driving a wedge between the American people and Israel so he can bully the Jewish State into an unfavorable deal with the Palestinians.

Japan has one of the highest standards of living in the world and a very selective immigration system. They know that if they told the 300 million living below the poverty line in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam that they were switching to an open-borders system, Japan wouldn’t be Japan for very long.

It’s hoped Judge Hanen wasn’t pressured by politics when deciding on this issue. The Left’s increasing moralization of immigration policy is pushing out all common sense from its discussion. Iran: A Bad Deal Is (Much) Worse than No Deal

Iran: A Bad Deal Is (Much) Worse than No Deal: "The Obama administration will almost certainly try to portray its nuclear deal with Iran as better than no deal, and will accuse those who oppose the agreement as choosing war over peace. Nothing could be further from the truth. A bad deal is far worse than no deal. A bad deal leaves Iran with a nuclear-weapons capability, which would be far more destabilizing than a return to tough sanctions. A bad deal undermines the IAEA’s attempts to get to the bottom of Iran’s covert weapons work. A bad deal undermines the Nonproliferation Treaty, leading to additional dangers around the world. A bad deal is a step toward conflict and more nuclear proliferation in a region of vital U.S. interest.

Preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear-weapons capability is the surest way to prevent war and preserve peace. To that end, the negotiators should return to the table insisting upon limits that will permanently block Iran’s paths to nuclear weapons and resolve the IAEA’s concerns about Tehran’s nuclear-weapons work as a condition of an agreement. The real choice is not between the administration’s deal and war, but between preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and capitulation.

Who Am I to Judge? - Crisis Magazine

Who Am I to Judge? - Crisis Magazine: "I am sick and tired of this “who am I to judge?” silliness. Only God can judge the state of the human soul. But it is pure humbug to suggest we cannot and should not judge human behavior. Reluctance to judge moral behavior is the inevitable consequence of moral relativism and moral subjectivism that has eroded confidence in the ability to determine objective moral truth on which sound judgment is based.

Judgment is an essential component of the exercise of authority. If you do not have the courage to judge, then you should avoid positions of authority. Not being judgmental is a curse of our age. When I cautioned my teenagers not to hang out with so and so, the standard response was “Oh, Dad, you are so judgmental!” Not to judge is a dereliction of duty that afflicts so much of the Church’s hierarchy. It obscures our Lord’s message, sows confusion among the faithful, and undermines lay efforts to fight against the perversions of the day.

Absence of judgment or inept judgment in regard to the pederasty scandal elevated the deviant behavior of a relatively small number of miscreant priests into an international scandal that subjected the papacy to scorn and crippled the Church for several decades. A recent example of the “who am I to judge?” question involved homosexuality and was uttered by Cardinal Dolan in a very public venue."

Cancer Of Multiculturalism Far Greater Threat Than Islamic Terrorism | Truth Revolt

Williams: Cancer Of Multiculturalism Far Greater Threat Than Islamic Terrorism | Truth Revolt: "What is at the heart of multiculturalism? Williams said it's a blatant assault on Christianity, spearheaded by the "hypocrites in the intellectual elite" and exemplified by universities promoting Muslim calls to prayer, yet boycotting Chick-fil-A on campus because of its CEO's view on homosexuality. Or public school boards who ban children's songs referencing Santa Claus or Jesus, and those who have banned the Declaration of Independence from classrooms because it contained references to God.

Also under attack, Williams said, is free market capitalism. "Personal liberty and private property are anathemas to people who want to control our lives," wrote Williams. "That is part and parcel of the multicultural and diversity movements infecting the Western world."

Its pathetic efforts at injecting pastiches of Third World and minority spirituality into its politics to provide the illusion of a spiritual dimension are hollow and racist. The left cannot fill its own hole, because it is the hole.

Like Islam, it provides something for people to believe in, but the thing it provides is the compulsion to find meaning by forcibly remaking other people's lives in a perpetual revolution which becomes its own purpose.

The left can't replace family or religion. Its social solutions are alien and artificial. They fix nothing and damage everything. Their appeal is to those who are arrogant and starved for meaning, who want religion without religion and family without family only to discover that they are not enough.

But as part of the effort to restore limited, constitutional government, we also should shut down various departments that deal with issues that shouldn’t be handled by the central government.

Get rid of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Shut down the Department of Agriculture.

Eliminate the Department of Transportation.

We need to add the Department of Education to the list. And maybe even make it one of the first targets.

Increasing federal involvement and intervention, after all, is associated with more spending and more bureaucracy, but NOT better educational outcomes."

The President and 'Violent Extremism' - Dennis Prager - Page 1

The President and 'Violent Extremism' - Dennis Prager - Page 1: "Regarding Islamic violence -- the greatest world evil since Nazism and Communism -- the president of the United States, his administration, and the left generally live in a make-believe world, a world of denial. In their world, Islam is today, and has always been, a religion of peace; Muslims are threatened by Islamophobia; Christians are wiped out by "violent extremists;" European cartoonists incite radical Muslims to murder them; fundamentalists of all religions are equally problematic; the hundreds of millions of Muslims who support violent Islamists have nothing to do with Islam, but the Inquisition was conducted by normative Christians; and slavery was defended in the name of Christ, but no mention is made of the far more ubiquitous (and ongoing) slavery in the name of Allah or of the fact that the movement to abolish slavery in the West was due entirely to Christians.

Nothing better reflects those Orwellian beliefs than President Barack Obama's speech last week at the conclusion of the absurdly named Summit on Countering Violent Extremism.

President Obama: "With the brutal murders in Chapel Hill of three young Muslim Americans, many Muslim Americans are worried and afraid."

O’s patriotism: Should have been probed 7 years ago

O’s patriotism: Should have been probed 7 years ago: "Anyone who simply looks at the factual evidence as to whether Obama loves America, or does not, will find remarkably little to suggest love and a large amount of evidence, over a long period of years, showing his constant close association with people fiercely hostile to this country. Jeremiah Wright was just one in a long series of such people.

Barack Obama’s campaign promise to “fundamentally change the United States of America” hardly suggests love. Nor did his international speaking tour in 2009, telling foreign audiences that America was to blame for problems on the world stage.

President Obama’s record in the White House has been more of the same. Among his earliest acts were offending our oldest and closest allies, Britain and Israel, and betraying the country’s previous commitments to provide anti-missile defenses to Poland and the Czech Republic.

Verdict on Palestinian Terror Ends Abbas Masquerade as a Force for Peace - Commentary Magazine Commentary Magazine: "Today’s verdict in a federal court in New York City won’t end Palestinian terrorism. Nor will it force the Palestinian Authority or its foreign cheerleaders to recognize the legitimacy of a Jewish state or to cease working for its destruction. But the results of the trial in which a jury rightly held the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization responsible for terror attacks carried out during the Second Intifada, in which several Americans were killed and wounded, should remove any doubt about the fact that so-called Palestinian moderates are as connected to terrorism as more extreme factions like Hamas. As significant as the stunning $218.5 million in damages (that will be automatically tripled to $655.5 million under U.S. law because it involves terrorism) assessed against the defendants, the really important point is that the decision strips away the veneer of respectability that figures such as PA leader Mahmoud Abbas have acquired from both the Obama administration and the mainstream media."

PEOPLE BECOME JIHADISTS FOR THE SAME REASON PEOPLE BECOME LEFTISTS

THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS: PEOPLE BECOME JIHADISTS FOR THE SAME REASON PEOPLE BECOME LEFTISTS: "I think it is. I think these people are egomaniacal utopianists who think they can bring about a better world for everyone - "whether you like it or not" - and are so sure of it that they are willing to lie, cheat, murder, use terror and even commit treason and genocide.

When Obama lied 30 times and told us over and over that "if we liked our healthcare, then we could keep our healthcare - period ... " he was willing to lie because he was convinced his leftist program was for our own good - democracy and truth be damned.

It is this sense of superiority, elitism and the utopianist urge that drives some people to become leftists and others to become jihadists.

Libertarians and conservatives on the other hand believe that humans and society are imperfectable; therefore libertarians and conservatives endeavor to create, not a perfect place, but a "more perfect" one - meaning one that allows individuals and families as much freedom to make their own lives what they want them to be; one that allows us each to pursue happiness in our own way. This is why libertarian and conservatives are so adamant about defending the US Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution: because they specifically limit federal power and generally limit all governmental power while asserting the inviolability of the individual - not because we are each perfect, but because we are each unique and imperfect in our own way. And this is why our families, and communities and states and nations are also imperfect. We merely have to respect each other's innate rights and do our best to get along to thrive in a society of greatest liberty and bounty - after all, prosperity is a by-product of liberty.

What keeps this from becoming a reality are the utopianist bullies of the left and of jihadism.

That's why we must defeat both."

Though Left-fascism embraces the Marxist ideas of “hierarchy” and “oppression” and other tenants associated with the radical Left, Left-fascism has more in common with Goebbels and Hitler than it does with anything which could remotely be called “liberal.” God forbid (trigger warning: I used the name of God, oh wait too late) any legitimate quest for truth or beauty. National Security Expert: U.S. Foreign Policy Leaders 'Have Lost The Ability To Think' | The Daily Caller: "From his time briefing generals in the Pentagon, Stephen Coughlin — a leading expert on national security and author of the soon-to-be-published book, “Catastrophic Failure: Blindfolding America in the Face of Jihad” — has always feared for our nation’s safety and thinks it’s time for the government to stop lying.

Coughlin is an attorney, decorated intelligence officer and expert on Islamic law and terrorism. He says the “entire world, friend and foe alike, understands, that starting with the Bush administration and accelerating in the Obama administration, that our foreign policy community is absolutely incoherent and completely vulnerable. These people have lost the ability to think.”

He contends that government bureaucrats have become so focused on fighting “narratives” consistent with a post-modern, politically correct worldview, rather than the facts on the ground, that America’s war on terrorism has become a catastrophic failure.

Rather than be tethered to the professional canon requiring a “duty to be competent” and know the enemy, or their oath to support and defend the nation from enemies foreign and domestic, Coughlin argues the military has been persuaded, cajoled and perverted into fighting based on narratives.

“This country is in serious trouble,” he believes. “The people who hate us — and it’s not just radical Islam, it’s the Chinese, it’s the Russians, it’s the Iranians — they know that our leaders don’t know what they’re doing, because they’ve been kicking the tires.”

In this exclusive video interview with The Daily Caller, Coughlin says our allies in the war of terror “watched us change sides” in 2010 and 2011, but “the scariest thing” to him “is that our senior national security leaders seem to have no comprehension that they did.”

Obama's comparison of Islam to Christianity is moral idiocy - Conservatives4Palin

Dennis Prager | Obama's comparison of Islam to Christianity is moral idiocy - Conservatives4Palin: "We live in an age of moral idiocy. Moral equivalence is the left’s way of resisting fighting evil. It did it during the Cold War when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were morally equated, and it is doing it now when it morally equates all religions and societies. Take, for example, this imbecilic equation by writer Ta-Nehisi Coates in The Atlantic, defending the president’s comments on Islam and Christianity by invoking slavery: "Americans have done, on their own soil, in the name of their own God, something similar to what ISIS is doing now."
There is a major moral crisis in one religion on earth today — Islam. To say so is not to get on a high horse. It is to identify violent Islam as the greatest evil in the world since Nazism and Communism.

Rudy Is Right - AOSHQ

Rudy Is Right: "So we keep playing this insipid game, wherein people who actively, loudly loathe the nation mock patriotism when the cameras aren't on them but then when they're speaking publicly want to be credited as "loving America as much as anyone."

And then, of course, establishment sell-out Republicans who are, get this, progressives in all meaningful ways (such as class affinity and class allegiance), swear that their progressive friends/employees/sex partners/side pieces are totally patriotic and that any Republican questioning this is himself Totally Unpatriotic.

Enough of the game. Your entire politics is based upon resentment towards the existing American order and a hatred of current American mores. Get the fuck out of here with your insistence that I credit you as "loving America."

And Obama is the absolute worst. He is explicitly -- he has told interviewers this, and David Axelrod writes about it in his book -- pursuing a "Bulworth" agenda by which he will Tell Americans how wrong they are about virtually everything, and yet the media needs the fainting couch when you point out that one is generally not said to be "in love with" people for whom one has nothing but complaints and critiques.

Ex-Im Should Go | Mercatus

Ex-Im Should Go | Mercatus: "Fincher also says that Ex-Im promotes exports and, hence economic growth. This, too, is misleading. Ex-Im Bank backs barely 2 percent of U.S. exports, which means that 98 percent of exports occur without it. Wouldn’t most of the exports the bank backed have happened anyway?

What Fincher fails to acknowledge are the many unseen victims of the bank. First, Ex-Im apologists claim that it returns money to Treasury, but the Congressional Budget Office projects that taxpayers will have to shoulder $2 billion in losses over the next decade. Even when there aren’t losses, it merely shows that the private sector could have handled the financing. Second, Ex-Im places the 99.96 percent of U.S. small businesses that it doesn’t subsidize at a competitive disadvantage because the subsidies artificially lower costs for privileged competitors. Indeed, the Cato Institute’s Dan Ikenson has shown that 189 industries are net losers due to Ex-Im’s subsidies.

Sadly, the privileges Ex-Im extends to the few come at the expense of countless American firms and their workers. Unsubsidized firms may see reduced revenues—and their employees may see their hours cut, their salaries stagnate, or their jobs simply vanish because their employers cannot compete on the uneven playing field created by the federal government.

But Americans never hear the darker side of the story because Ex-Im Bank and its corporate and political patrons willfully ignore it. And contrary to what Fincher would like you to believe, his so-called “reform” bill won’t create a happier ending. None of his proposed reforms address the bank’s fundamental flaw that it’s inherently redistributionist nature leads to the political picking of winners and losers. Instead, the Fincher bill would hire more bureaucrats to oversee Ex-Im Bank and require various government entities to issue reports, which would just add to the running stack that Congress already routinely ignores. Other provisions of the bill are merely reincarnations of “reform” included in the in the 2012 Ex-Im reauthorization bill. Together, they make for no real changes.

It is time for Congress to start cleaning up its house and agree to end programs that need to go away. Enough with the pretense of reform.

Crony Capitalism Vs. Free Market Capitalism—–An Examination Of The Crucial Difference | David Stockman's Contra Corner: "“This tale of two capitalisms provides insights about the connection between institutions, entrepreneurship, and the desirability of income inequality. Empirical evidence suggests that sound monetary institutions and legal institutions that protect private property rights and enforce the rule of law provide an environment favorable for free market capitalism and productive entrepreneurship, as well as promote greater economic development and less income inequality. This tends to support
Milton Friedman’s (1980) famous proclamation: ““A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.””

Government planning, by necessity, makes the political authority the ultimate monopoly, with the power to determine what is produced and how the resulting output shall be distributed among all the members of the society. Belief in and expectation of government paternal care from the everyday vicissitudes of life, employment, and enterprise, Hayek insisted, weakens the spirit of self-reliance and independence." Mothers and Fathers: Big Difference

Mothers and Fathers: Big Difference: "The radical Left insist there is no difference between a man and a woman, a mother and a father, that either are easily dispensable.

That doesn’t even pass the smell test. Why do any of us let them get away with lies like that which defy common sense and the very evidence we can see for ourselves?  Simply because we want to “get along”?  What a bunch of wusses we’ve become!

It would be one thing if we were letting them pass off apples as oranges, or even letting them pass off used gum wrappers for $20 bills.  But to allow them to counterfeit the immeasurable value of marriage?  That takes a particularly low type of coward.

Studies have always shown that children do much better with their biological mothers and fathers.  This wisdom was “Duh!” for thousands of years even before clinical studies proved what we already knew through experience. Who is going to love a child like their biological flesh and blood?  Who is going to protect a child like their biological flesh and blood?  Who is going to go the extra mile to nurture and provide for a child like their biological flesh and blood?

And no, two men or two women can’t replace the balanced environment that a mother and father provide for a child. A mother and father work in concert with each other, both drawing on inherent talents, strengths and inclinations to provide the best of both male and female giftings to provide a balanced developmental environment for a child. Having a home where there are two men or two women as the adult figures sends the extremely unbalanced and damaging message to a little boy or girl that one or the other sex is either unnecessary or undesired, or both.

It is the epitome of narcissism to insist we put a child in such an environment so that homosexuals can feel better about themselves."

Real education reform means getting Washington out of the way

Real education reform means getting Washington out of the way: "Big, fat, government types hate any public policy that devolves power away from centralized authority in Washington, D.C., but when states and cities are able to rip away some of that authority, case after case proves that localized policymaking is much more successful.
Case in point: School choice, as in, actually providing parents with alternatives to federal government-run, federal government-mandated education curricula.
A recent infographic published by Reason magazine online in honor of School Choice Week says it all in five fast facts:
— Charter schools are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional (government-run) public schools;
— In general, charter schools are producing better educational outcomes for less money;
— Charter schools are much more diverse, ethnically, than public schools (and you know, liberals and Democrats are all about diversity, right?);
— Minorities perform much better in charter schools than in public schools (which makes one of Obama’s first official acts during his first term in office – the elimination of a very popular charter school program in Washington, D.C., which was benefitting mostly minority kids – excruciatingly hypocritical); and
— Fully 91 percent of K-12 students in New Orleans attend charter schools, compared to 44 percent in D.C. (many of these are elitist schools for the anointed and empowered D.C. elite), 55 percent in Detroit, and 21 percent in Los Angeles.

A corroding skepticism is undermining the West | Blazing Cat Fur

Op-ed by German writer at NYT: A corroding skepticism is undermining the West | Blazing Cat Fur: "A corroding skepticism is undermining the West. I hear it in political circles and at private dinner tables when people say that what happened in Ukraine was Europe’s and America’s own fault. You see it in the banlieues of Paris and the migrant quarters of Berlin, where religious absolutism is taken as superior to pluralism…

Our enlightened societies have been struck by an autoimmune disease. Two fundamental virtues of the West, doubt and conscience, are turning against their inventors. “Sapere aude,” or “dare to know,” the courage to put into question any reputed certainty, has been the basic formula of progress and human development. We’ve fared pretty well with this principle, from Martin Luther to the moon landing and gene therapy…

India Makes New Law: Muslims Can No Longer Have Multiple Wives - Walid Shoebat

India Makes New Law: Muslims Can No Longer Have Multiple Wives - Walid Shoebat: "Although their personal law permits men to have four wives, the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that a Muslim’s fundamental right to profess Islam did not include practicing polygamy. “What was protected under Article 25 (right to practice and propagate any religion) was the religious faith and not a practice which may run counter to public order, health or morality. Polygamy was not integral part of religion and monogamy was a reform within the power of the State under Article 25,” said a bench of Justices T S Thakur and A K Goel.

The bench said that polygamy was not integral to religion and the practice of polygamy did not acquire sanction of religion simply because it was permitted. It upheld the UP government’s decision to sack one of its employees on the ground of misconduct for opting for a second marriage during existence of the first marriage without its prior permission.

The history of Obama’s historical ignorance

neo-neocon » Blog Archive » The history of Obama’s historical ignorance: "I think the most important reason for his historical ignorance is that Obama has an agenda—or, as Mandel puts it “defects in ideology.” It is his ideology that drives this, combined with the ignorance, arrogance, etc.. But the ideology comes first, because if you have a firm belief that you want to favor Iran, for example, and that belief has been held for a long, long time, and most of your moves as president have been predicated on that belief (and you also happen to think you’re incredibly brilliant), what possible motivation would you have to seek out or listen to information that contradicts what you think you know?

I’ve written a great deal on this blog about how difficult it is to take in new information and change your mind. This is true even for people far less arrogant, far less invested, and far less ideologically driven than Obama. You have to be open to the fact that you were wrong, and curious about truth, in order to learn and change in that way. Obama is neither. His ideology is set in stone and would be resistant to new information even if it happens to come his way.

Your government not at work: HUD doesn't verify whether housing aid recipients really need the help: "The fact that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and an entire federal agency could not even design a functioning web site after years of development (when they could have had better performance just setting a WordPress page, most likely) should have dashed any remaining faith in big, pervasive, liberal, progressive government but, alas, it has not – and the fact that Barack Obama won two terms and any Democrats at all won reelection in 2014 demonstrates as much.
The latest example of Big Government incompetence and, really, scandalous chicanery, comes in the manner of Department of Housing and Urban Development. An agency that always had a dubious mission – race-norming neighborhoods and force-feeding dwelling diversity – HUD has now taken to doing its level-best to use the taxpayer funding it receives annually in the least efficient manner possible.

Solar Energy Subsidies Cost $39 Billion Per Year | Washington Free Beacon

Report: Solar Energy Subsidies Cost $39 Billion Per Year | Washington Free Beacon: "“This report is only the first step in asking the important questions about solar subsidies,” said David Williams, the president of the TPA. “Taxpayers need to know the truth about where their dollars are being spent.”

“Congress needs to stop these massive subsidies that are siphoning $39 billion a year from taxpayers,” he said. “If solar is ever going to be a viable energy source and industry, they need to wean themselves off the public dole.”

In addition to the federal government, which has spent $150 billion in the last five years, states also heavily subsidize the industry by offering tax breaks and 538 rebate programs.

However, solar energy will only contribute 0.6 percent of total U.S. electricity generation in 2015, the TPA’s report said.

Why charlatans and demagogues are flourishing - The Commentator

Why charlatans and demagogues are flourishing - The Commentator: "Ortega’s more famous book is The Revolt of the Masses, published in 1929. Civil-war and a harsh dictatorship in his own country,  and deadly struggles against fascism and communism in Europe as a whole for several generations, perhaps concealed its importance as a prophetic work.

He argued that shifts in education, the mass media, and popular culture in general were encouraging the rise of a banal, self referential culture. He was writing long before the rise of cultural relativism and post-modernism created an intellectual void in which objective truth and a hierarchy of values were dismissed as bourgeois, reactionary and Western impositions.

Encouraged by demagogic forces in the media, higher education and indeed politics, more and more people grew scornful of accepting any standards against which their behaviour and attitudes could be judged. This is one of the most frequently quoted passages from his 1929 work:

‘If from the viewpoint of what concerns public life, the psychological structure of this new type of mass-man be studied, what we find is as follows: (1) An inborn, root-impression that life is easy, plentiful, without any grave limitations; consequently, each average man finds within himself a sensation of power and  triumph which, (2) invites him to stand up for himself as he is, to  look upon his moral and intellectual endowment as excellent, complete.

"This contentment with himself leads him to shut himself off from any external court of appeal; not to listen, not to submit his opinion to judgment, not to consider others’ existence. His intimate feeling of power urges him always to exercise predominance. He will act then as if he and his like were the only being existing in the world; and, consequently, (3) will intervene in all matters, imposing his own vulgar views without respect or regard for others, without limit or reserve, that is to say, in accordance with a system of “direct action.”

Fail: Consumers Discover They're 'Insured, But Not Covered' Under Obamacare - Guy Benson

Fail: Consumers Discover They're 'Insured, But Not Covered' Under Obamacare - Guy Benson: "Yes, it's time once again for yet another post illustrating a core criticism of Obamacare, and various forms of government-run or -micromanaged healthcare more generally; namely, the fact that "coverage" or "insurance" does not equal care. The DiploMad 2.0: Are They Really Journalists? No, They are Progressives and Must Lie

The DiploMad 2.0: Are They Really Journalists? No, They are Progressives and Must Lie: "Your standard progressive activist has really done nothing very interesting, so he or she needs to get proper credentials, to show that he or she knows what's what, and that progressivism is what the world needs to deal with "problems"--after all, isn't life just a series of problems calling for progressive intervention? They want to see what they believe.

We, hence, have progressives making up the sort of stuff that puts them, the elite, in the center of the battle, on the ramparts, in the muddy trenches and downed helicopters with the common schlubs--the sort of worldly experience that allows progressives to tell us how to live our lives.

Telling lies is essential to progressivism.

How America Lost its Soul - The Moral and Intellectual Collapse of the United States - Eagle Rising

How America Lost its Soul - The Moral and Intellectual Collapse of the United States - Eagle Rising: "“In polite society, the mere mention of the Bible often introduces a certain measure of anxiety. A serious discussion on the Bible can bring outright contempt. . . . The Book That Made Your World, by Vishal Mangalwadi, brings to mind Alexis de Tocqueville’s early-nineteenth-century classic, Democracy in America. . . . A culture can barely begin, let alone sustain, any serious intergenerational attempt to comprehend, interpret, and respond to the riddles of life and the universe unless it has some reasonably comprehensive worldview.”

Given evolutionary and materialistic assumptions, there is no underlying moral base upon which to build a lasting society. Integration into the void of chaos, primitivism, and nihilism, something we're seeing escalate all around us, is the only possible end."

Electing people to office really doesn't matter

Electing people to office really doesn't matter: "The reality is, however, that so much of what emanates from the nation’s capital in terms of public policy has little to do with the passage of laws and nearly everything to do with the massive regulatory apparatus that has been constructed over the past century.
And unless or until enough of our leaders get serious about dismantling the massive federal bureaucracy – which largely answers to the president, and not to the people’s elected representatives – voting won’t much matter

Air pollution not linked to asthma

Don Surber: Air pollution not linked to asthma: "For decades, the federal government has promoted the belief that outdoor air pollution is linked to asthma -- the better to peddle restrictions on industry.

A new study found no such link exists, the Hill reported.

Christian Europe, the Inventor of Liberty: Part I - Values & Capitalism

Values & Capitalism » Christian Europe, the Inventor of Liberty: Part I - Values & Capitalism: "But it is often forgotten the Magna Carta does not begin with that statement, but with a declaration of the liberty the English Catholic Church. A Free Church precedes Free Men because that religion authored those political freedoms. As philosopher Larry Siedentop demonstrates in his book, “Inventing the Individual: The Origins of Western Liberalism,” Christianity gave birth to the equal liberty of all individuals.

Disintegration of the Nuclear Family Threatens America’s Survival | CNS News

Disintegration of the Nuclear Family Threatens America’s Survival | CNS News: "Perceptive observers now (like Dr. Carlson) and then (like the Founders and like Locke, Rousseau and Montesquieu more than two centuries ago) understand the critical linkage between the health and safety of families and the health and safety of societies and the stability and efficacy of democratic governments. If the Founders and the intellectual lights who guided them were correct, the contemporary disintegration of the nuclear family in America – due primarily to nonmarital cohabitation, childbearing out of wedlock, and the termination of close to one-half of all marriages by divorce – has profound implication not only for the health and happiness of the members of such families, but for all of society and for the stability, efficacy and survival our form of representative, democratic government.  The failure to responsibly form, respect and maintain marital families is not just a private tragedy, it is a public calamity that portends a developing social and political disaster.

How Christianity Gave Us the Modern World | Acton PowerBlog

How Christianity Gave Us the Modern World | Acton PowerBlog: "“Christianity undergirded the development of Western liberalism (in the old, good sense of the word),” says Rich Lowry. In fact, without Christianity there would probably not be anything like what we conceive as true liberty:"

Federal “Cost Control” Helped Create Our Hospital Crisis - The American Interest

Federal “Cost Control” Helped Create Our Hospital Crisis - The American Interest: "The Upshot piece details a item of President Obama’s budget that seeks to eliminate this distortion by paying the same rate to private practice doctors and doctors who “work in off-campus practices that are owned by hospitals.” Doctors who physically work inside a hospital will still get higher rates, but off-site doctors won’t. Officials believe this could save Medicare $30 billion dollars in the next decade, and Sanger-Katz suggests that the chances of it getting past are higher for this proposal than for many others in the President’s budget.

This idea sounds promising, but we shouldn’t forget what led to this problem in the first place. The federal government attempted to control costs and wound up introducing a distortion that raised costs by encouraging hospital consolidation (surprise!). Health care is full of examples of this dynamic at play, where top-down cost control winds up being a kind of wonky whac-a-mole. Perhaps it’s time to give another approach a shot, one that acknowledges that empowering consumers is the best shot we have at sustainable cost control.
