THIS Is What the 2012 Election is About

THIS Is What the 2012 Election is About:
[High Praise! to American Power and Cold Fury]

_______________
This conflict is in no way a bad thing; it is a necessary thing, a vital thing. The division we are seeing is the inevitable result of two incompatible belief systems rubbing against each other and striking sparks. Rancor fueled by molten passion in this case is a feature, not a bug.
Progressivism simply cannot be reconciled with an America whose people are citizens, not subjects. It is not compatible with individual liberty and unrestrained initiative. It is an ideology not of freedom, but of fetters. It is based not on self-determination, but on coercion and compliance. It is Obama, his halfwit lackey Biden, and their ideological confreres–not conservatives and libertarians–who seek to put us in chains.

The full post has adult language, but considering the topic, it doesn’t really seem out of place.

Gun Posters [Papa B]:

Be of Good Cheer! - Ricochet.com

Be of Good Cheer! - Ricochet.com

What this means in practice, Zuesse suggests, is that the Republicans are more likely to win Congress than at any time since Gallup began doing this sort of polling. All that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have to do to capitalize on this opportunity is to present themselves as capable of governing and of having a serious plan aimed at turning things around. And that is, of course, precisely what they are doing.

In the meantime, there are polls suggesting that  the Republicans will pick up Senate seats in Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. On the first Tuesday in November, you should be watching these and the other Senate races – for if the Republicans strike gold in the upper Midwest there will be lots of pickups elsewhere as well. The 2012 election will confirm what happened in 2010; and, if the Republicans subsequently show that they really can turn the country around, there will be a realignment.

For conservatives and for the Republican Party, Barack Obama is the gift that keeps on giving. He is for us what Herbert Hoover once was for the Democratic Party.

The flaw of the religious Left

The flaw of the religious Left: Mark Tooley on the religious Left's argument for more entitlement programs in the federal budget:

A defining flaw for the Religious Left when it comes to welfare is that they believe welfare is synonymous with charity. But welfare can never be charity because anything that the government does is backed with coercion and force. Charity, by definition, is voluntary. The Apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
The government cannot run welfare programs without compulsion. Paying taxes does not make the Religious Left charitable because they are required to pay money to the government under threat of penalty. The only way to be charitable is to give from your own pocket or from your own time to help the poor. Sending a check to the IRS to go through the maze of government bureaucracies is not following Jesus’ commands to be charitable. But, how much easier it is to simply pay your taxes and feel pride in believing yourself a charitable Christian rather than actually tithing to the church and working to provide for the poor and needy yourself!
Which is very much what I wrote in, "Beware the compassion police."

“nor can a peace be brokered”

“nor can a peace be brokered”:
The title isn’t about the Middle East, although it could be.
It’s John Nolte’s persuasive analysis of the mainstream media in light of the hot mic comment initially thought to come from an ABC News staff member that the Romneys are “happy to party while black people drown”:
The media cannot be reasoned with nor can a peace be brokered.
We must defeat these people because that’s what they intend to do to us. When you believe our nominee is happy to party while black people drown, you can only believe that we possess no humanity. You can’t reason with people who hate you. You just can’t.
Nolte didn’t know how right he was. It turns out it wasn’t some low-level ABC staffer, it was David Challian, Washington Bureau Chief for Yahoo! News.
This is how they think, how they talk behind our backs, and how they inevitably frame the news to work against us.

College Students See Skyrocketing Costs for Health Insurance Thanks to Obamacare | The Lonely Conservative

Thanks to Obamacare, college students are seeing the cost of health insurance policies skyrocket. It’s no wonder when you look at the chart above. President Obama is trying his best to capitalize off of the youth vote this time around, so this is news he probably doesn’t want getting out there.

While we can sympathize with someone who is losing their family farm, that doesn’t justify introducing luddite programs to keep inefficient farmers in business. Helping such families adjust to changing circumstances is one thing; guaranteeing them a 100 cow dairy farm in perpetuity is entirely another.

Liberals Indoctrinate Children to Control Society

Liberals Indoctrinate Children to Control Society

After the debacle of the Vietnam War era, the liberal establishment decided that the only way to accomplish the goal of “converting” American opinion was to infiltrate our schools at the level of teacher and administrator to control the student’s degree of learning in institutions of higher education. So the numbers of students majoring in political science and education exploded exponentially over the next couple of decades. One of the principal strategies of the left for the past 40 years has been to control the learning process in America’s public schools. Controlling the content of public education at all levels is how the left is actively transforming Americans into a flock of naive ill-informed, easily-led sheep or as I call them Sheoples. A major component of the dumbing down process is to revise history to suit their goals. Historical revisionism is how liberals revise America’s past to suit their agenda.

One of the most prolific practitioners of historical revisionism is President Obama. When it suits his purposes to do so, the president will simply make up history that never happened or distort what did happen until it appears to support his agenda. When he speaks to his audience he refers to historical circumstances as if they are indisputable facts, and they are if no one questions them. President Obama’s most infamous act of historical revisionism came when he claimed that not only is America not a Christian nation, it is one of the world’s largest Muslim nations. To make such an absurd statement, Barack Obama had to ignore more than 200 years of historical evidence, evidence that is readily available and clearly contradicts him.

Progressive philosophy and political correctness in US universities « Charles Rowley's Blog

The term university itself suggests and implies that such institutions should be open to all ideas rationally advanced.  Surely, they should not be institutions dedicated to advancing any particular brand of social philosophy.

Sadly, this is not the case.  Almost without exception, U.S. universities are controlled by senior bureaucrats of progressive, left-leaning persuasion.  Unconstrained by any profit-motive, these individuals indulge their own personal preferences in the organization of ‘their’ universities. They do so through a discriminatory allocation of budgets to specific programs, through hiring and tenuring practices,  and through the imposition of speech restrictions to enforce political correctness across ‘their’ campuses.

The Herd of Independent Minds

Articles: The Herd of Independent Minds

Liberal intellectuals like to pose as bearers of the culture of reason, as fiercely independent thinkers.  But they are kidding themselves.  They have traded their intellectual primogeniture for the mess of pottage of group identity.  They are fully integrated into the socially and politically dominant tribe, sharing the same visceral likes and dislikes, the same shaming code.  Rather than being autonomous rational actors, they are merely an assemblage of cipher units marching in lock step to the tribal drumbeat.  Harold Rosenberg mordantly branded them the herd of independent minds.

Liberal-style designer spirituality is a combination of moral relativism and a hybrid form of pseudo-Christianity.  Pious liberals mix together a dash of New-Ageism, a sprinkle of secular humanism, a bit of out-of-context Scripture, and a large dollop of liberal social policy, all topped with some compassionate acts of look-at-me mercy and, if it fits into their busy schedule, a very slow and public stroll to the local church.

Why Free Markets

Articles: Why Free Markets

Free markets always receive short shrift because quotidian human functions fail to ignite the mob's imagination.  "Isms" are advantaged because they deliver the apparitional savior.  They appeal to something-for-nothing fantasies.  Everyone knows there is no something-for-nothing in a free-market exchange.

The good news is the free market can deliver the unseen better than the "isms": better roads, better medical service, better schools, better security, better courts.  We know this because whenever the free market -- or the relativity freer market, to be specific -- is compared to government monopolists, the freer market always wins: Walmart over GUM, Mercedes over Trabant, Yamaha over Ural.

There is simply no such thing as inefficiency or failure in a free market.  When free-market opponents point to a putative free-market failure, they point to an interventionist system pulsating with government-granted privileges: tariffs, subsidies, regulation, licensing, intellectual "property" protections, government-business collusion, land set-asides, zoning, building codes.

Free markets are imperfect markets, to be sure, because people are imperfect.  Free markets are simply less imperfect -- far less imperfect -- than the alternatives.  So a free-market economy is not only the best political economy possible, but it is also the best political economy imaginable by thinking adults.

But as we are seeing this year, vicious and utterly untrue and malicious ads from the Left are only properly rebuked by recognized media fact-checkers and occasionally by honest cable networks like Fox and C-SPAN. The so-called establishment media has proven itself to be a hypocritical institution run by radicals and staffed by left leaning liberals. The level of hypocrisy keeps growing – and as it does, it encourages the Left to be ever more brazen in its soul-less assassinations of character and gutting of human decency.

Republican Women For Obama? [UPDATED: Another Fake "Republican" Exposed] | Power Line

It happens all the time in talk radio: a caller will say that he is a lifelong Republican, and will recall fondly how he voted for Ronald Reagan. Then he says that today’s Republicans have gone too far, and for the first time ever he is voting for a Democrat! These callers are nearly always lying. If you look them up, you likely will find that they are Democratic Party precinct chairmen.

The Obama campaign is trying to perpetrate the same deception. It has just released a video called Republican Women For Obama, which features four or five women who claim to be Republicans, or to have been Republicans until recently. But, of course, they are appalled by Mitt Romney–it is hard to say why, apart from a couple of discreet references to abortion, but did they really just now figure out that the Republican Party is pro-life? The ad is surprisingly ineffective, but it is also dishonest. At least one of the women who pose as “Republican women for Obama” is a long-time Democrat.

While much reporting this week focused on the warnings from the Congressional Budget Office of dire consequences of the fiscal cliff the country will hit in January if nothing is done, it’s also worth noting the deficit forecast that came with the report.

According to the CBO report, “For fiscal year 2012 (which ends on September 30), the federal budget deficit will total $1.1 trillion, CBO estimates, marking the fourth year in a row with a deficit of more than $1 trillion. . . . Federal debt held by the public will reach 73 percent of GDP by the end of this fiscal year—the highest level since 1950 and about twice the share that it measured at the end of 2007, before the financial crisis and recent recession.”

Fiscal Cliff Even Higher Than First Thought

Fiscal Cliff Even Higher Than First Thought:
According to the Financial Times, a new report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says that its original calculations of the impact of the fiscal cliff significantly understated the risks and the situation is  far worse than it thought:
The US will be plunged into recession next year if Congress fails to strike a deal to avert the looming “fiscal cliff”, with the economy contracting at a rate of 0.5 per cent in 2013, according to congressional analysts.
The projection by the Congressional Budget Office is substantially bleaker than its projection at the end of May, in which it forecast that the US economy could suffer a recession early next year but would rebound strongly enough in the second half to ensure tepid growth of 0.5 per cent for the full calendar year.
The U.S. economy will tumble over the fiscal cliff—a catastrophic, simultaneous combination of expiring tax cuts and automatic spending cuts—on January 1 unless a bipartisan deal is reached. Voters need to push every politician running for national office to explain exactly what they intend to do to prevent an entirely artificial and unnecessary disaster from engulfing the land.
But as the magic date approaches, we are likely to see some precursor effects. A business that sees a 50/50 chance of a recession starting in January isn’t going to spend a lot of money in September. Consumers are less likely to make big ticket purchases, and small businessmen will start curtailing their hiring well before the New Year.
This probably does not mean we can expect quick action from our political class, however. Reach for the life jackets, America. The politicians are steering us straight for the rocks.

And I’ve also warned that it will make our health care system less efficient and could lead to some of the horrifying examples of rationing and poor care that you find in the United Kingdom (scroll to the bottom of this post for some shocking examples).

But if you need another reason to be upset, it turns out that Obamacare is going to be a very lucrative gig for a new crop of government bureaucrats.

Even though the Club of Rome’s general school of thought has mercifully gone the way of other 1970s-era relics, such as mood rings and pet rocks, the effects linger in popular and elite consciousness. People get more excited about the fate of the Kyoto Protocol (aimed at fighting global warming) than the fate of the Doha Round (aimed at lowering trade barriers) —even though an expansion of trade would do hundreds or thousands of times as much good as feeble limitations of emissions, and do so more cheaply, quickly, and efficiently for the very people who are most vulnerable. It is past time to acknowledge that economic growth, for lack of a better word, is good, and that what the world needs is more of it, not less.
Economic growth is good.  Amen.

Harmony before Insight? The Destruction of Western Man | VDARE.com

It is common for those in the West to talk of the decline in our countries—from the decrease in civility to the rise in violent crime. However, no one ever seems to be able to offer a coherent reason for these phenomena.

Yet, when one examines truthfully the actions of Western Man since the end of World War II, it is clear that the West has turned against the values of its own forefathers.

In our schools, teachers distort or dissemble or slander our forefathers. For example, Abraham Lincoln is now considered the “epitome of racial egalitarianism,” when, in fact, he never questioned the “inferiority of the black race” and had a plan to return the freed slaves to Africa. And Darwinism is denuded of its true implications—mankind evolved from the apes, but there are supposedly no differences evolved among groups of men after that. When nature is arbitrary and capricious, how can that be?

Paul A. Rahe : How Hatred Became a Liberal Value

Paul A. Rahe : How Hatred Became a Liberal Value:
Politics is generational. Consider the thuggery practiced by the Democrats recently in Wisconsin. Force, intimidation, and openly partisan, unprofessional conduct on the part of judges, civil servants, physicians, and policemen became on the part of left-liberals the order of the day, and no one on the left stood up to denounce this conduct. Now, thanks to our President’s admiration for the tactics of Saul Alinsky, others in other states are imitating the deportment of the Wisconsin left-liberals – not only heckling Republican candidates but attempting to storm the platforms on which they speak.
I remember when left-liberals insisted on civility. I remember when they condemned the tactics of intimidation championed by the New Left. I remember when progressives insisted on impartiality on the part of judges, civil servants, policemen, and those who purported to be reporting the news (as opposed to espousing opinion). There were always exceptions to the rule. Dan Rather was playing tricks as early as 1963. But, when caught and exposed, these exceptions took it on the chin. Today they rarely even apologize.
I remember when liberals sported on their automobiles bumper stickers reading, â€Å“Hatred is not a Family Value.” Then, back in 2003, in The New Republic, Jonathan Chait wrote an essay explaining why it was legitimate to hate George W. Bush, and the dam burst. Civility is no longer a liberal ideal. And now – as yesterday’s armed attack on the Family Research Council in Washington, the five-hour delay in President Obama’s condemnation of the act as he calculated whether it was in his interest to comment or not, and the mainstream media’s initial reluctance to report on the event, much less highlight the activist LGBT connections of the shooter suggest – left liberals are willing to wink at violence. It may be regrettable, they think, but, like stealing elections, it is all in a good cause – and before figuring out how to respond to an outbreak of violence on the part of their allies, they pause to calculate the political consequences. You will not hear liberals arguing for a crackdown on the use of force by animal-rights activists, environmental activists, union thugs, and the Occupy movement. Instead, you will find in them a desperate hankering to pin on the Tea Party responsibility for conduct the Tea-Partiers abhor and a willingness to engage in race-baiting and talk of class warfare on a stunning scale.
The truth is that it is a short distance from the hatred preached by Jonathan Chait to assassination, and five and six years ago there was a great deal of open, public fantasizing along these lines by left liberals.

It’s Liberals that use the word “Hate” irresponsibly

It’s Liberals that use the word “Hate” irresponsibly:
Liberals, Progressives, or whatever these people wanna call themselves this week bear full responsibility for throwing the word “Hate” for diabolical purposes.  It’s Liberals who like to co-opt words and change their meaning to suit a particular agenda they’re trying to push.
It’s Liberals who kidnapped the word “Gay” which used to mean “happy” before the 1970s and changed the meaning to Homosexual to soften and re-label an activity that is seen as an abomination in the Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
But, hijacking a word doesn’t change how the majority of society views it.  Similarly, Liberals place the “hate” moniker upon groups that disagree with them without consideration of whether or not it’s justified.  They just do it and it’s reckless.
The Family Research Center is not a hate group because Liberals say it is.  In fact, most things that Liberals believe in is not true.  So let’s come to grips with the English language once again and see who the manipulators are.  What do they want to achieve and why?  Then ask ourselves is it truth?

Articles: The Childishness of the American Left

The American left is the most self-indulgent, arrogant, and spoiled group of people on the face of the earth.  They live in a nation facing national bankruptcy and societal upheaval -- a country presently subsisting on the residue of past economic achievements.  Yet the only things that matter to them are their lifestyles and imposing their self-determined superiority on rest of the American people.

Obama Promises 'Shared Prosperity' But Delivers Shared Misery - Investors.com

As we explained in this space yesterday, Obama's shared prosperity vision is all wrong. Real prosperity must first be created — by entrepreneurs, investors, successful business leaders and, yes, the rich — before it can be shared with anyone.

And that sharing happens automatically, without any government meddling, as workers in a prosperous, free economy get more and better jobs and consumers get more and better products.

Mitt Romney has seen this first-hand, and fundamentally gets this. Obama apparently never will.

Business's real problem: Uncertainty, uncertainty, uncertainty - Fortune Management

Business's real problem: Uncertainty, uncertainty, uncertainty - Fortune Management

High uncertainty creates a loop of paralysis, and that's what we're in right now. Policymakers have no idea what's going to happen, so they sit on their hands, as the Federal Reserve did recently. "Nearly all participants" in the latest Federal Open Market Committee meeting said that the economic outlook was more uncertain than it had been over the past 20 years, according to the minutes; the committee took no action, and the Dow dropped. The minutes also reported that business leaders were telling committee members that "heightened uncertainty" had led them "to put potential investment projects on hold until the uncertainty is resolved." And what were those business leaders uncertain about? Government policy. An index of policy uncertainty created by economists at Stanford and the University of Chicago backs their view, showing that policy uncertainty has been much higher in recent months than during the previous 25 years.

GEORGE WILL: Ryan Pick Underscores How Obama Has Become “Silly and Small.”

Romney embraced Ryan after the sociopathic — indifferent to the truth — ad for Barack Obama that is meretricious about every important particular of the death from cancer of the wife of steelworker Joe Soptic. Obama’s desperate flailing about to justify four more years has sunk into such unhinged smarminess that Romney may have concluded: There is nothing Obama won’t say about me, because he has nothing to say for himself, so I will chose a running mate whose seriousness about large problems and ideas underscores what the president has become — silly and small. . . . Romney’s selection of a running mate was, in method and outcome, presidential. It underscores how little in the last four years merits that adjective.
Indeed. Related: Robert Samuelson: “The selection of Paul Ryan — chairman of the House Budget Committee — as Mitt Romney’s vice presidential candidate has the potential to turn this dreary presidential campaign into a meaningful debate over the size and role of the federal government.”

Obama's irresponsible Medicare policy | PrairiePundit

Obama and the Democrats just will not admit that there solution is massive tax increases well beyond what could be raised by just "taxing the rich."  Consequently, there is unlikely to be sufficient resources to fund the programs my kids are now paying into when they become eligible and there is no way their kids will be able to pay enough to make it solvent.  Obama is not willing to address the problem now when there is time to make adjustments to make it viable.

It is an unprecedented act of irresponsibility.

Yesterday, NBC’s Andrea Mitchell claimed that Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate was “not a pick for women.” If that’s true, how can Mitchell explain why there are so many women in these pictures.

Report: Cronyism behind Holder's failure to charge bankers | The Daily Caller

A new report from the conservative Government Accountability Institute (GAI) finds that President Barack Obama’s and Attorney General Eric Holder’s failure to criminally charge any top Wall Street bankers is likely a result of cronyism inside the Department of Justice and political donations made to Obama’s campaign.

Despite Obama’s and Holder’s “heated rhetoric” against Wall Street (in 2009, Obama blamed the 2008 financial collapse on “reckless speculation of bankers” while Holder charged that “unscrupulous executives, Ponzi scheme operators and common criminals alike have targeted the pocketbooks and retirement accounts of middle class Americans”), they haven’t “filed a single criminal charge against any top executive of an elite financial institution,” GAI wrote in its report, exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller.

Curl begins with a brief recitation of what Democrats and their media allies said shortly after Ryan was announced as the VP nominee.

The Democrats will continue to lie about Medicare and Social Security.   They just yell their lies louder when they are in trouble.  Expect the decibel level to rise over the next weeks.  These lies will be their main argument for staying in office.  What the Ryan nomination make harder for them is ignoring the problem.

Must Read: "The Most Divisive Campaign in American History" by Daniel Greenfield: Daniel Greenfield, who blogs as "Sultan Knish" (knish being a Jewish pastry), often writes essays that are breathtaking in their accuracy and insight.

His essay today is "The Most Divisive Campaign in American History."

A couple of his salient points:
Romney appeals to voters who are dissatisfied with the last four years. Obama appeals to voters who are dissatisfied with America.
and
To vote for Obama after years of grotesque economic mismanagement that has no precedent in history, that exceeds the worst actions of Andrew Jackson or Ulysses S. Grant, is not the instinct of an American, but a selfish greedy looter scrambling to grab a few dinner rolls off the tray while the ship is going down. There is no policy justification for voting for a man with the worst economic and foreign policy record in the country's history. There is no American justification for voting for him. Only the UnAmerican motivation of carving up a dying country into group fiefdoms privileging identity politics over the common good.

Seniors not fooled by Obama attacks on Ryan budget

Seniors not fooled by Obama attacks on Ryan budget: Gallup:
...
Ryan's plan includes a complete restructuring of Medicare for people younger than 55. Pluralities of middle-aged Americans as well as those 65 and older prefer Ryan's plan to Obama's, while adults 18 to 29 show more support for Obama's, 53% to 30%. These findings are in line with approval of Obama by age, more generally.
...
The survey was done earlier this year.  You really have to question the intelligence of the younger voters who will have to pay more and get less under the Obama plan.  It maybe an indictment of the current education system that these people ignore the fact that the programs will go bankrupt in 12 years if we stay on the course Obama is pushing.   Are they just uninformed or have they been mislead by Democrats who do not want to do anything to deal with the coming debt crisis?

New Study: MD Pensions Underperforming, Paying Billions in Fees to Wall Street | Via Meadia

The story is always the same. Public sector unions press for fat pension promises. Politicians cave, but refuse to raise taxes or cut spending to pay for their promises, instead assuming high rates of return to keep up the fiction that workers’ pensions are secure. Pension fund managers chase high returns from aggressive and risky investments—exactly the kinds for which Wall Street management firms can charge the highest fees. True blue Democrats thus piously denounce Wall Street while simultaneously feeding the beast.

Unions, politicians, Wall Street: all are in it together. The victims are the very workers and taxpayers they claim to support.

"the last exit ramp before the death spiral"

"the last exit ramp before the death spiral": Milquetoast Mitt - Mark Steyn - National Review Online:
There are no precedents in history for a great power spending itself to death on the scale America is doing. Obama has added $5 trillion to the national debt, and has nothing to show for it. Do you know how difficult that is to do? Personal debt per citizen is currently about 50 grand, but at least you got a La-Z-Boy recliner and a gas-fired barbecue out of it. Obama has spent America’s future, and left no more trace than if he and his high-school “choom gang” had wheeled a barrow of 5 trillion in large notes behind the gym and used them for rolling paper. Right now, combined total debt in the United States is just shy of $700,000 per family. Add in the so-called “unfunded liabilities” that a normal American business would have to include in its SEC filings but that U.S.-government accounting conveniently absolves itself from, and you’re talking about a debt burden per family of about a million bucks. In other words, look around you: the paved roads, the landscaped shopping mall, the Starbucks and the juice bar and the mountain-bike store . . . There’s nothing holding the joint up. ...
This election represents the last exit ramp before the death spiral.

Meaningless Words and Phrases

Meaningless Words and Phrases:
By Jeremy Meister | August 11, 2012 | American Thinker
In the politics of 2012, it’s amazing just how many words and phrases get thrown around without any thought.  Here is just a short list of some of the more popular lingo and the actual definitions.
Social Justice
One of the first philosophical debates ever recorded was an argument between Plato and Aristotle.  The subject of their argument: the definition of the word “justice.”  The argument was unresolved, and two thousand years later, people still argue over what “justice” means.
American liberals in the modern day have done something rather clever with the word “justice”: they tacked the word “social” in front of it.  Now most people don’t ask what it is (because they think they already know).  Those brave souls who do ask for a definition of “social justice” are declared to be against it and shouted down.
There is no definition for “social justice.”  It is whatever the speaker/writer says it is, and this makes it the perfect political talking point.  ”Social injustice” is whatever one says it is as well.
“Social justice” seems to be shorthand for “whatever is politically correct.”  Why is there affirmative action?  ”Social justice.”  Why give home loans to minorities who can’t afford them?  ”Social justice.”  Why should Obama be re-elected?  ”Social justice.”
Social Safety Net
What exactly is the “social safety net”?  From its usage, it seems to be a euphemism for “government spending.”
Of course, the spending programs that fall under the “social safety net” (Social Security, unemployment, Medicaid, Medicare) are broke when times are good.  And during an economic downturn, when people really need said programs?  They’re just not there.  That’s going to make a lot of people who have been paying into those systems pretty mad when they figure it out.
Racism
“Racism” is defined as the inherent belief that one particular race (usually one’s own) is superior to others.
“Racism” in modern politics means “anything minorities don’t like.”  The term is applied even to non-racial controversies.  The people who are opposed to the Ground Zero mosque?  They are “racist.”
The people who want our border secure?  They are “racist.”  It doesn’t matter that people from all races/ethnicities are entering our borders illegally every day.  Border laws will “disproportionately affect Hispanics.”  Of course, so will laws granting illegal aliens in-state tuition at colleges, but that’s never called “racist” (see definition above).
This is giving way to all kinds of strange ironies in 2012.  People who have great-grandparents of a minority race get turned away under current affirmative action laws.  Such people are “too white.”  Yet one hundred years ago, Homer Plessy was forced to sit at the back of the bus because he was one-eighth Native American (i.e., “too black”).  His loss at the Supreme Court in 1896 (Plessy v. Ferguson) allowed Jim Crow to become the law of the land.  How little things have changed.
Or take groups like La Raza or the NAACP.  How many whites have been in charge of these organizations?  To even suggest such a thing would bring the charge of “racism” — never mind the fact that such groups argue that race/ethnicity shouldn’t matter in our society or politics.  And never mind that the NAACP was founded by white people.
Hope the irony isn’t lost on them.
Rights
The word “right” in the political/legal sense is something that the government cannot take away.
Note that the government has no rights.  There is no faster way to demonstrate ignorance on the issues than to assert that “The government has a right to…”
In a twist of irony, such people often insist that “corporations are not people” (and therefore deserve no rights).  Legally, corporations are considered people — this is to streamline the collection of taxes and allow corporations to be sued, since it’s hard to sue non-entities.
Rights are limited when they collide with the rights of other people.  One has a right to free speech but isn’t allowed to threaten his neighbors.  One has a right to religion but can’t sacrifice other people to bloody gods.
Or that’s the theory.  The practice is a little different — one need only visit Twitter to see threats being made or read the president’s executive orders to see the right to religion being trashed.  The only “rights” being protected anymore are gay marriage and abortion — neither of which appears in our Constitution.
Pacifist
A “pacifist” is someone who doesn’t fight — ever.  True pacifists won’t even argue with other people.
A “pacifist” in modern politics is someone who won’t fight in the military.  Outside that, you can find “pacifists” fighting everywhere in our society, from courtrooms and peace marches to Occupy Wall Street.  Often they get in the faces of cops and challenge them to get physical.
If one asks these “pacifists” what they’re doing, they’ll even admit: “We’re fighting racism,” “We’re fighting for civil rights,” “We’re fighting for social justice,” and so on.
Fairness
A visit to any schoolyard can teach anyone about the very subjective definition of “fairness.”  At its most simple, “fairness” is just another word for “balance.”
A system set up so that those who have the most are required to put in the most but get the least out doesn’t seem all that “fair” to the people who are putting it in, nor does giving the most to those who put in the least.
The Occupiers are marching because they want their college bills paid.  They want taxpayers to pick up the tab.  But a lot of taxpayers would never qualify for Ivy League schools.  It really doesn’t seem “fair” to make little people pick up the snob tab.
Or consider Social Security, welfare, Medicaid, and other bankrupt programs.  People on such “assistance” often put in little to nothing and take out a lot.  True, it doesn’t seem much to the people getting the checks, but in terms of national scale, it’s digging quite a debt hole.  But since that bill will be paid by someone else, there is no call to slow it.  Is it “fair” to make future generations pay for our irresponsibility?
Greed
“Greed” would seem to be defined as “a sense of entitlement to things one did nothing to earn.”
Again, this is not the definition used in modern American politics.  Today, “greed” means “we want their stuff.”  We’re being told by a bunch of people who demand that their food, housing, medicine, and education all be free that “greed” prevents them from getting it.
It seems that they would know something about “greed.”
Robin Hood
According to the fairy tale, Robin Hood was a Christian knight who went to the Holy land of Israel to kick the Muslims out.  When he returned to England, he found that the guys who stayed home had taken over the state and raised taxes to enrich themselves and their friends.  Outraged by the oppressive taxes and regulation of the state, Robin Hood started a private war against tax collectors, giving the money back to the people who earned it.
Does Robin Hood sound like Barack Obama or any other Democrat in modern politics?  Naming their big-tax/big-spend agenda after Robin Hood is like naming a synagogue after Adolph Hitler.
Scary to think that these people and their followers, who can’t even get their children’s fairy tales correct, are running our nation.
Maybe we all just need new dictionaries.

Another big lie of the left

Another big lie of the left: The Guardian:
The GOP Ruse to Disenfranchise Voters
This is a total fabrication by the left to keep their voter fraud schemes alive.  Voter ID disenfranchises no real person.  Everywhere it has been implemented minority voting participation increased.  Democrats like to create factious voters during the registration process giving addresses as vacant lots or store fronts sometimes using multiple people at the vacant lots.   They also register felons who have lost their voting rights.  These votes are used to steal close elections such as the 2008 Minnesota Senate race.  Democrat voter fraud can account for as much as three percent of the vote in some locations.

No wonder they push lies about disenfranchising voters.  They insult the intelligence of minorities by suggesting they are too incompetent to have a valid picture ID.  That is total nonsense.

Say Anything Academia Is Just Another Bought And Paid For Liberal Constituency Say Anything:
These academics are, of course, free to contribute their political money however they wish. But the lopsided reality of contributions from academia doesn’t speak very highly of the sort of diversity of thought and ideology that is supposed to exist on college campuses.

There’s also a relationship between this sort of giving and big government. We talk often of Democrats growing government to create more public workers who pay dues to unions who, in turn, help elected more Democrats. The same thing seems to be happening on the college campuses, where academics and professors owe their jobs to lavish government spending and vote to keep that spending rolling.
All the more reason to uncouple politics from our campuses by privatizing higher education.

Kathryn: finally, a Catholic prelate willing to employ the “e-word” — evil — in defense of religious teaching. The Church really needs to grasp that it’s in the fight of its life with the Obama administration, which by any means necessary will employ all the powers of the presidency — real, implied, and invented — in order to marginalize religion and create the fully secular state of its dreams. If you thought the HHS mandate was bad, wait till you see what’s coming in a second term.
The question to ask is this: Are any of the candidates of either party, or independents, standing for something that is intrinsically evil, evil no matter what the circumstances? If that’s the case, a Catholic, regardless of his party affiliation, shouldn’t be voting for such a person.

IRS told employees to ignore potential fraud in program used by immigrants - Washington Times:
IRS supervisors ignored employees who tried to warn agency higher-ups of fraud in a program designed to collect taxes from immigrants, resulting in the agency paying out potentially bogus refunds.

The Treasury inspector general for tax administration said the IRS even eliminated some methods employees had used to figure out questionable refund requests, and that the agency doesn't have the ability to verify applicants' identity or foreign status.

Investigators "found an environment which discourages employees from detecting fraudulent applications,” said J. Russell George, the inspector general.

NBC not telling truth about the war in Afghanistan | AEIdeas

NBC not telling truth about the war in Afghanistan | AEIdeas:
Despite progress in Afghanistan over the past three years, a majority of Americans see the war in the country as unwinnable, and about two-thirds believe the U.S. should not be at war there. There are many reasons support for the war has declined sharply in the past years. Afghanistan has already surpassed Vietnam as the longest war in U.S. history, with nearly 2,000 deaths and thousands more wounded. It is no longer the “good war” and President Obama speaks about Afghanistan only about once a year.

But the main reason the American public has lost hope in the Afghan mission is due to the generally negative coverage of the conflict by the media. While major media outlets regularly report on the Taliban attacks, rights abuses, the drug trade, religious extremism, cultural malpractices, corruption, and other problems in Afghanistan, they seldom report on the progress made in the country, such as the success of the surge in southern provinces, progress in size and quality of Afghanistan’s security forces, and improvement in the country’s economy, health and education. Some alarmist journalists even sensationalize the problems to depict the situation to be much worse than reality.

From the moment that Obama burst on the scene, he has threatened Congress in one way or another, challenged their authority at every turn, and usurped a good measure of their Constitutional powers along the way with barely any objection from them.

No Mystery to Slow Growth: Progressives Are the Problem - Peter Ferrara - [page]:
The Big Picture Lesson of the 20th century was that capitalism works and socialism and communism don't. The rest of the world learned that lesson far better because they and their close neighbors suffered far more with the socialist and communist progeny of Saul Alinsky's first radical. But America should know better because it has enjoyed most the workers paradise of capitalism.

Yet those who call themselves Progressive, a polite, Americanized word for Marxist, refuse to accept that obvious conclusion. That is why our politics have become so nasty. The Progressives know they can't win a debate based on reason. So they turn to name calling, demonization, ostracism, anything to distract from and avoid a reasoned debate. Hence the widespread use of the term "dumbass" by pot smoking hippie Progressives in commenting on the reasoning of careful scholars that they disagree with, or the ubiquitous allegations that anyone who disagrees with them is lying, or bought off.

How the left portrays good as bad

How the left portrays good as bad:
To the left, success has become the Mark of Cain. Where success once used to be proof of good character, it is now proof of bad character. To succeed is to steal. Anyone who has achieved more than those around him has unfairly taken from them. And the more he succeeds, the more he has to feel guilty about and the more he must atone through social justice.
